History
In 1953, at the age of 15, my father began making engineering stakes for the railroad out of the scrap pile at his fathers sawmill. Later in life he was managing a pallet manufacturing company in Ladysmith Va. He and his friend Steven (Sandy) Helms, who would become his partner, were looking at the scraps from the pallet company and thinking what a waste it was to just burn it up. My Dad, Jim, remembered how he had made those engineering stakes as a child and the two of them began looking for a market. In 1970, B&H Millwork was formed and they began making engineering stakes as well as landscaping stakes. In 1997, Sandy retired and B&H was restructured to be known as B&H Wood Products, Inc.
